ZoomCar Insurance Coverage Guide
Updated June 2026 · Third-party cover, CDW, Trip Insurance, and exclusions
Is ZoomCar insured?
Yes. All ZoomCar vehicles carry mandatory third-party insurance under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. This covers damage or injury caused to third parties — other vehicles, pedestrians, or property. It is a legal requirement on every car on Indian roads.
Types of insurance coverage on ZoomCar
1. Third-party insurance (mandatory)
Covers damage or injury you cause to others. Does not cover damage to the ZoomCar vehicle itself. Present on every ZoomCar listing — non-negotiable.
2. Comprehensive cover / CDW (own damage)
Covers damage to the ZoomCar car itself. Availability and the deductible amount vary by listing — some listings include it, others offer it as an add-on, and a few do not include it. The deductible is the amount you pay even when comprehensive cover is active. Typical deductibles range from ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 depending on car class. Check the specific listing before booking.
3. Trip Insurance add-on (optional)
ZoomCar's optional Trip Insurance product caps your liability in an at-fault accident at the deductible amount shown on the listing. Without it, you may be liable for repair costs above the standard CDW limit. For premium cars (Fortuner, XUV700) where repair costs are higher, Trip Insurance is worth evaluating.
Coverage summary table
| Coverage type | What it covers | Who pays deductible |
|---|---|---|
| Third-party (mandatory) | Damage/injury to others — vehicles, people, property | N/A (fully covered by insurer) |
| Comprehensive / CDW | Own damage to ZoomCar vehicle | You pay deductible (₹2,000–₹10,000 depending on listing) |
| Trip Insurance add-on | Caps your at-fault liability to listed deductible | You pay deductible (capped); insurer covers the rest |
What is NOT covered
- Tyre damage from road hazards (potholes, nails) — typically excluded
- Underbody damage from off-road use beyond the car's rated terrain
- Personal belongings left in the car — not covered by ZoomCar insurance
- Incidents under the influence of alcohol or drugs — all cover is void
- Damage not recorded in the pre-trip inspection report
Pre-trip inspection — the most important step
Before driving away, photograph every panel, the roof, all four tyres, and the interior. Timestamp your photos. Submit the pre-trip report in the ZoomCar app. If pre-existing damage is not documented, ZoomCar may attribute it to your trip — this is the most common source of disputed damage claims.
