ZoomCar Fuel Policy India

Updated June 2026 · Full-to-full, fixed-fuel, shortfall charges, and practical tips

What is ZoomCar's fuel policy?

Most ZoomCar bookings use a full-to-full fuel policy: the car is provided with a full tank at pickup and you must return it with a full tank. A second policy — fixed-fuel — is available on select listings where fuel is pre-included in the price and you may return at any fuel level. Which policy applies to your specific booking is shown on the listing page before payment.

How to check which policy applies to your booking

The fuel policy for each car is shown on the listing detail page before you confirm payment. Look for the "Fuel Policy" or "Fuel Type" section in the booking summary. If the listing shows "Full-to-full," you are responsible for returning the car with the same fuel level as pickup. If it shows "Fixed fuel" or "Fuel included," it is pre-paid and you may return at any level.

What happens if you return with less fuel?

On full-to-full bookings, if you return the car with a lower fuel level than at pickup, ZoomCar charges for the fuel shortfall at the current pump price plus a handling fee of approximately ₹100–₹200. The amount is deducted from your security deposit. This charge is calculated based on the difference between your return fuel reading and the pickup fuel reading, using the applicable pump price for the car's fuel type in that city.

Practical tips to avoid fuel shortfall charges

  • Photograph the fuel gauge at pickup: take a timestamped photo inside the ZoomCar app or on your phone before driving away — this is your evidence baseline if there is any dispute at return.
  • Keep petrol receipts: retain receipts from any fuel station visit during the trip. These confirm you fuelled the car and help dispute any shortfall claim.
  • Refuel near the return zone: find a petrol station within 2–3 km of the return zone. Refuel to full there so the tank is full when you arrive at the return point.
  • Confirm the fuel type: check the car's fuel type on the listing (petrol, diesel, CNG) and refuel accordingly. Misfuelling is a damage event and not covered by CDW.
